God, being the creator of all things, is too big for human comprehension. If we are to know anything about him, he must reveal himself to us. The Bible is his revelation of himself to us. It can be viewed as God's diary of his dealings with humanity. It makes some very definite statements about the human race and its relationship to God. Ultimately it is about Jesus. The first chapter of John says Jesus was the Creator, that he is the eternal Son of God, that he is God. The gospels tell the story of his life on earth and the reason he was crucified. Some of these truths are beyond comprehension, but we do not have to comprehend all to understand they are true. The Bible tells the story of God's love for man and what he has done about the ultimate dilemma of humanity.
God's purpose for man is seen in these words of Jesus:
John 10:10
I came that they might have life, and might have {it} abundantly.
(NAS)
God's purpose for man is life, not death. But we have messed up badly. We have what the Bible calls a sin problem.
Rom 3:23
...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
(NAS)
The word "sin" means to "miss the mark". We missed the
mark God set for us. The result of this is terrible beyond description.
It has
caused us to loose life and be condemned to death.
Rom 6:23
For the wages of sin is death...(NAS)
The death referred to here is eternal separation from God in a place called hell. That thought is repulsive to the human mind. But we have no authority or power to delete or even modify what God says. We must realize he wants to rescue us. He provided a solution for our sin problem. But the solution cannot be yours until you agree with God about your own personal sin problem. God did not cause your sin problem. He reveals your sin problem. Denying the truth does not change it. Do you confess to God in your heart, agreeing with God, that you have sinned; and sin has separated you form God?
